Tisha Campbell AKA Gina made her appearance at the Soul Train Awards with her longtime friend Tichina Arnold, as the two are this year’s host. As it was announced, she and Duane Martin are divorcing after 20 years together. Now a single mother of two, this is a brand new world the Martin actress is navigating.
In an interview with The Atlanta Voice, the 50-year-old dished on women taking care of themselves first and becoming single again.
On what keeps her grounded, since her divorce from actor Duane Martin:
What keeps me grounded are my children. Making sure they know they have a mom and father who loves them no matter what. Being a single parent is a new world for me and is hard for me to take in sometimes. I never thought this would be my life but it is. I’m glad these two beautiful kids came from something special.
On Pastor John Gray’s comments and Black women must carry men rhetoric:
Don’t forget yourself. I still think God would want you to put yourself first. If you are not fed and drinking from the well you cannot give to others. I don’t care if it’s your work, kids, or your husband.
The Soul Train Awards airs Sunday, Nov. 25 on BET at 8 p.m. EST.
