This Week In Social Media Trends Commentary: Megan Thee Stallion, Joe Biden, and Flavor Flav

Megan Thee Stallion and her current record label 1501 are at odds surrounding her contract. Meg shared via social media that after a review of her contract by her management (ROC Nation), she wanted to renegotiate her contract with 1501. Well, it seems that 1501 is not trying to heart it. In fact, Megan has been prohibited from releasing new music! Yep, that petty! It’s unfortunate that piss poor contracts are still acceptable in the music industry. According to 1501 label co-founder, Carl Crawford they discovered Megan. So I guess the freestyles and previous managements ground work meant nothing.

Often times, artists are young, impressionable, escaping poverty or less than ideal situations, and have no access to an entertainment lawyer. Record label executives know this and still choose to present their clients with shady contracts. Most recently, Asian Doll asked to be released from Gucci Manes label 1017. She is now an independent artist. Hopefully, a deal can be reached that’s equitable and fair for all parties involved.

Joe Biden has a little pep in his step after the South Carolina primaries. Word on the street is that it wasn’t even close. With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Biden garnered 48.4% or 256,047 votes. Impressive for a campaign that would have been dead in the water had the results been different. All eyes will now be focused on the outcome of Super Tuesday.  1,357 of the 3,979 pledged delegates will be awarded during the Democratic primaries on Super Tuesday. 1,617 total delegates could be awarded across candidates.

After 37 years of partnership, iconic rap hypeman Flavor Flavor has been released from Public Enemy. Deep, long sigh! According to the group, he has one year to right the ship, else the decision will be permanent.

The group denies that the current rift is due to the stop and desist Flavor Flav sent the Bernie Sanders camp for the “unauthorized use of his likeness and image, for the promotion of a rally”. This isn’t the first time Flavor Flav has had trouble with the group. In 2017 he sued the group over unpaid monies.

“Public Enemy and Public Enemy Radio will be moving forward without Flava Flavor”.
