Monday & Co.’s Cowork Pop- Up Event – Atlanta

Saturday I had the opportunity to attend a Cowork Pop-up Event at Monday & Co “located in Atlanta, in the historic Old Fourth Ward near MLK Park.”  The event was hosted by CEO, Candice VanWye and COO, Michelle Benjamin of  Brown Girl Bloggers. I have attended several conferences, but this was my first “cowork” type of event.  We were met with a well-appointed workspace, hot coffee and a delicious assortment of pastries; lunch was also provided.  Creatives were encouraged to bring their own equipment. Each working space seated four people and was equipped with electrical outlets.  As a bonus, access to Monday & Co’s studio equipped with lighting, backdrops and podcasting hardware was permitted.

During the Q&A session, websites and Instagram accounts were critiqued. There was so much valuable information shared. I was really inspired by both Candice and Michelle. I walked away understanding two things. One, we are not meant to do this entrepreneur thing alone. Two, black women can and do work well together. There were so many bloggers and creators of the same hue as myself and that blessed my soul tremendously.  I made what I hope to be meaningful and valuable connections. Safe spaces for black and brown creatives are of utter importance. Especially in this country’s current climate.

While the co-work concept is not new, having a space owned and operated by black women is rare and needed. Memberships to Monday & Co. are available on a pay what you can afford basis.  Venture inside your city for what could be wonderful learning and networking opportunities.
