Flau’jae, the 14 year old female emcee from Savannah, GA rocked the mic and crowd during her performance of “Guns Down” on America’s Got Talent. I received a text message from a friend with a link to check her out. So me the curious blogger did just that. I waited with anticipation to hear her and I was stunned. The girl got bars, stage presence and most importantly..a timely message. Gun violence continues to plague our youth and her plea to put guns down is timely and necessary.
Flau’jae has had a personal experience with gun violence and the tragedy that often follows. While still in her mother’s womb, her father – Jason Johnson aka Camouflage an emcee whom had recently been offered a deal to sign with Universal Records was gunned down. She would never get the chance to meet to him. Although she carries his spirit with her and pursued a rap career in honor of him.
According to recent crime statistics, in her hometown of Savannah, GA police investigated 283 aggravated assaults with guns in 2017, three more than last year’s total. Aggravated assaults without guns rose from 260 incidents investigated in 2016 to 325 in 2017 – 65 more. Gun violence continues to plague our youth and her plea to put guns down is necessary.
Best of success to the budding female emcee. Rooting for you all the way from St. Petersburg, FL.
