I would encourage any budding or existing entrepreneur to attend The BYOB Retreat. The BYOB Retreat reminded me of why it is so important for black and non white creatives to have a space to grow, learn, and explorer. Too often, with events similar to these, their voices are often missing or minute. Also, to be in the mist of so many seasoned and budding entrepreneurs was in deed very beautiful. Major kudos to BYOB’s Co-Founder, Andrew Nguyen for having the bold vision for the retreat and the courage to execute it with perfection.
I had several ah..ha.. moments during the various sessions. However, I am aware that the work truly begins after the retreat. Putting into practice the information that one has received will yield the real results. There were a couple of quotes that I marinated on well after the sessions ended. ”Lifting means less of me looking the the rock, but becoming one internally” – Jon Jackson, Co-Founder of Blavity and “We are doing the right thing, but doing the business wrong”, Alonzo Alston, Entertainment Lawyer; one spoke to inner strength and the latter to doing business in a way that respects your time and energy and that also honors your hard work.
The BYOB Retreat is an extension of the BYOB Society, a network comprised of professionals at the top of their game and that according to their website, offers millennials support, professional development training, career resources, mentorship, and start-up advice. The BYOB Society have hosted entrepreneurial driven meet-ups and events in the following cities, Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York City Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles.
